Understanding the Ontario Confined Spaces Regulation

Do you know what a “Confined Space” is in Ontario, or what an "Atmospheric Hazard” might be? Even after 13 years since the Ontario Ministry of Labour made significant changes to the regulations respecting confined spaces, many Ontario Businesses still do not understand how to implement some of the requirements, including how to identify spaces based the unique Ontario regulatory definitions.

Instructor Bio

 

Marcus Anthes is a Senior Occupational Hygiene & Safety Consultant at Pinchin Ltd. (Pinchin). He has nineteen years of industrial hygiene and safety consulting and training experience. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from St. Mary’s University, Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Public Health from Ryerson University, and a Masters of Science, Applied degree in Occupational Health Sciences from McGill University. In addition, Marcus is a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) since 2005.

 

Marcus began his career as an occupational hygienist, conducting technical surveys, and has since dedicated the majority of his time with the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Group at Pinchin to OHS program development, auditing and training. Marcus is the OHS Group’s technical lead on confined space consulting, and since the Ontario regulatory amendments of 2006, Marcus has conducted or managed over 4,500 hazard assessments for more than 250 companies, including developing various confined space documentation (e.g. programs, plans, rescue procedures, etc.) and has delivered several general and plan-specific confined space entry training courses.
